In the celebratory mood full of 10th anniversary from the launch of the first iPhone, the biggest news is that the price of "X (ten)" has reached a record high from 999 dollars. This is contrary to industry practice that it is usual that product prices go down.
The new iPhone which was first shown on the 12th has many eye-catching features. The screen became larger and covered all over the surface, brightness increased. Processing speed increased, camera function improved, face authentication was introduced for unlocking.
Still it is not such a change that Tim Cook's chief executive (CEO) said "Taking the biggest leap since the first generation". Ten years have elapsed since products like scales were born, the pace of technological progress does not accelerate, but rather it is getting dull.
Maturity of the mobile phone market is also progressing. According to the forecast of the research company IDC, the worldwide shipments growth of this year will remain at less than 5%. This is a sign of a painful turning point in a regular product cycle. In other words, companies change their policies from acquiring new customers to depriving market share from rivals through price reduction, which leads to lower profitability.
